A third public high school in Illinois will now offer an accredited Assyrian language course beginning next year, according to course organizers.

A social media page representing D219’s Assyrian language program efforts said in a statement Wednesday that Maine East High School in Illinois’ school district 207 will begin offering Assyrian as a World Language course next year.

Last year, Illinois’ Niles Township District made history as the first public high school district in the US to offer Assyrian as an accredited language.

According to Wednesday’s statement, Maine East will be the third high school in Illinois to offer Assyrian as a world language. Registration for the course at Maine East will begin next month.
