Mar Mari Emmanuel, a bishop of the Christ the Good Shepherd Church near Sydney was delivering a sermon when he was allegedly stabbed. The alleged attack can be seen on the live stream of the sermon. According to a statement from the church, Emmanuel and one other clergyman sustained injuries but are in stable condition. One suspect was arrested, though the motive is not known.

Emmanuel has a sizable online presence that gained traction during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic when he expressed anti-vaccine and anti-lockdown views.

The church is not apparently affiliated with the Assyrian or Ancient Churches of the East.
